The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) has launched a EUR 3 million security support initiative, funded by the European Union through its Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO). This initiative aims to reinforce humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank amid relentless violence.

Security risk management is essential for the humanitarian community to operate safely and reach the most vulnerable, especially those living in areas affected by hostilities. Grounded in the imperative to stay and deliver, the project is designed to enhance security capacity by addressing critical staffing and equipment gaps. It will increase the number of security professionals, such as advisers, coordination officers, and operations staff, deployed across the Gaza Strip, the West Bank including East Jerusalem, and Jordan. These personnel will work closely with UN humanitarian agencies and Saving Lives Together (SLT) partner organizations to conduct real-time security risk analysis, strengthen emergency preparedness, and support the delivery of humanitarian assistance amid ongoing conflict.

“We are deeply grateful to the EU for their timely and generous support,” said Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, Gilles Michaud. “This funding is essential to our efforts to protect humanitarian workers and maintain access to communities in urgent need. It strengthens our ability to stay and deliver where help is needed most.”
