National Workshop on Enhancing Rwanda¡¯s Trade Resilience

Monday, 29 September 2025 - 9:00am to Tuesday, 30 September 2025 - 5:00pm

As more LDCs reach or approach the threshold for graduation, and with the goal of bringing at least 15 additional LDCs into the graduation pipeline by 2031, it is imperative to strengthen their capacity to leverage global trade for sustainable and irreversible graduation. Enhancing LDCs¡¯ ability to diversify exports, integrate into global and regional value chains, and adapt to emerging trade trends will be key to achieving long-term sustainable development.

The workshop aims to bring together key national stakeholders to review and validate evidence- based strategies for accelerating Rwanda¡¯s export diversification and enhancing its trade resilience. It will provide a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue on mitigating the impact of rising global trade tensions, escalating tariffs, and the potential loss of LDC-specific preferences associated with graduation. The discussions will explore concrete policy options and institutional measures to strengthen Rwanda¡¯s capacity to absorb external shocks and to build a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable trade ecosystem. The workshop will also examine strategic pathways to deepen regional integration, improve trade facilitation, and promote value addition, while leveraging South-South cooperation and regional partnerships to support long-term trade resilience and sustainable development of Rwanda. In addition, it will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the preparation of Rwanda¡¯s national report on the implementation of the DPoA, as part of the comprehensive global mid-term review process.

The workshop is organized by UN-OHRLLS in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Rwanda.
