The 32 landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) face a unique set of vulnerabilities to climate change due to their geographic circumstances, structural economic challenges, and limited mitigation and adaptation capacities.

UNIQUE GEOGRAPHIC CIRCUMSTANCES

LLDCs are disproportionately situated in internal drylands, where desertification and heat stress are worsening, and mountainous regions especially exposed to melting glaciers, landslides and flash floods.

This report reviews developmental trends in Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), evaluating progress in the priority areas of the Vienna Programme of Action (VPoA) and estimating the economic cost of landlockedness. It highlights achievements, lessons learned, and best practices in development in LLDCs, while providing recommendations for implementing the new Programme of Action for LLDCs for the Decade 2024?2034.

Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) face structural challenges with transport and trade processes that contribute to high logistical costs on trade. This report develops a dataset on unit logistics costs measured in $/ton, disaggregated by origin, destination, commodity, and mode of transport, as the basis of a comparative analysis of LLDC logistics costs relative to other economies.

The Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) prepared?this comprehensive roadmap for the accelerated implementation of the Doha Programme of Action?PDF(DPoA) for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for the decade 2022-2031. It was prepared in close consultation with the United Nations Inter-Agency Consultative Group on the LDCs.

The SDG7 Policy Briefs are developed in support of the High-level Political Forum which this year will review progress and action needed on SDG7. UN-OHRLLS as a member of the SDG7 Technical Advisory Group (SDG7 TAG), is the lead contributor to this Policy Brief on LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS.? The Policy Brief underscores urgent international attention is needed to address the inequalities in access to sustainable energy that are faced by the three groups of countries.

This report outlines a number of possible actions for LLDCs to advance the adoption of renewable energy and harness related socio-economic and environmental benefits. The report concludes that the world is likely to fail to achieve the SDG 7 target of 100 percent access to electricity by 2030, despite notable progress in electrification being recorded over the last decade.

Empowering women from LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS in deep-sea research Report was commissioned as part of the activities under the Women in Deep-Sea Research (WIDSR) project implemented by the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in partnership with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and more than twenty governments, international and regional organizations, research institutions, private sector entities, and non-governmental organizations.?
