Every two years, the UN Dag Hammarskj?ld Library of the Department of Global Communications brings together people from around the world to promote the principles of openness in science and scholarship.

Since 2018, the Library, in collaboration with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Division of Sustainable Development Goals, and UNESCO¡¯s Division of Science Policy and Capacity-Building has organized the global Open Science and Open Scholarship Conference.

This year, for the first time, the event will move away from New York: The 4th edition of the conference will be held in Tokyo from 16 to 18 October?at the United Nations University, coinciding with its 50th anniversary.

Open science and open scholarship are the enabling environment through which all Sustainable Development Goals may be accomplished, and libraries worldwide serve as a core infrastructure for this environment.

This conference seeks to advance the action-oriented Pact for the Future by promoting concrete actions in open science that directly support the pact, with a specific focus on actions 28-33.

Under the theme ¡°The Right to Participate in and Benefit from Science,¡± panels and keynotes will focus on three areas:?

  • AI, open science, and the global digital divide

  • Science communication and public engagement

  • Removing barriers to knowledge: open infrastructure and the future of scientific access

The event will convene over thirty speakers, bringing together voices from across the global open science and open scholarship communities.

Join the Library to support the urgent call to accelerate transformations in science and scholarship, and to inspire collaborative actions and coalitions to expedite progress ensuring no country, community, or individual is left behind.
